Got this in a email passing it on NEWS RELEASE – JANUARY 19, 2010 SANDBAGS AVAILABLE FOR RESIDENTS IN TWENTYNINE PALMS If you live in Twentynine Palms and you need sandbags to protect your home or business from potential flood waters during the winter rainstorms passing through the area, help is available. Sandbags can be obtained free of charge from the Twentynine Palms Fire Department at 6560 Adobe Road, or call the fire station for assistance at (760)367-7524. Wonder Valley residents can obtain free sandbags from the San Bernardino County Fire Station located at 80526 Amboy Road in Wonder Valley, or call the station at (760)367-3761. Sandbags are also available for a nominal cost at Barr Lumber, 6854 Adobe Road in Twentynine Palms, and at Home Depot in Yucca Valley. Both stores are open seven days a week. The City of Twentynine Palms advises residents to drive slowly and be mindful of other motorists, especially during periods of heavy rainfall. Watch for possible roadway flooding and be aware of flash-flood gate closures on residential cross-streets near the flood control channel in Twentynine Palms. Better yet, if you don’t need to drive somewhere, stay off the roads until the downpour subsides.

I remember like 5 years ago me and the girls were stuck in the middle of the desert in a bad flood with big giant boulders rolling next to our car, we were so scared and they were crying thinking we were going to die.

This is when living at the top of a hill comes in handy. :) But that's great info, thanks Kerry!
