Good Morning All!! I just have a question for all the moms (or dads). My child will be turning 3 this year and I was told that he would have to take some sort of test at the age of 3 to go to school in California. So my question is have any of you done this, and if there is any information I should know? Thanks!
What are you taking about Kinder? They don't start Kinder until they are 5 and they have to turn 5 by Dec 1st. Now your child can go to preschool i think, i didn't enroll mine until he was 4, becuz i thought 3 was still a little to young for preschool
At speech therapy I was told my child would have to take some sort of test at the age of 3. I tried looking it up online and I can not find anything about it.
Oh that sounds like it might be for Headstart, i know that kids in speech Therapy usuallt can get into Headstart with no problems. I would call Headstart and see if they know anything. Here is the number 760-367-5150
So you have a child in school and they never had to take any sort of test? Hmm.. I wonder what they were talking about. I agree with you about 3 being a little young for preschool!!
Not what i was told, they had an article a few months ago about it ( i think they chaned it for this new coming up school year) let me see if i can go find it.
Thanks so much!! I will call and see what they say, I just want him to be prepared! Since my husband wants to stay in Twentynine Palms when he gets out I want to know as much about the school district as possible!!
What they mean is that he has to be evaluated by the school district for an IEP and be enrolled in headstart/preschool. I had the same issue with my son. He is in Headstart in town and is doing speech therapy in school and with the speech therapist in town. If you dont get the IEP then Tricare wont pay for speech therapy in town. Im assuming you're military. My son went 6 months without getting speech therapy until he got the IEP.
Yes I am Military, well come June I won't be. I hope this is'nt being nosey but does your son go to the therapist across from the stumps? And do you think it is helping?
Yeah he does...And honestly I think it used to help, when he first started going but I think he is actually learning more in school. Hes come a long way in this past year.
I hope that I am not being annoying with questions but I have another one. It's about Copper Mountain, do they have a day care center there? The Community College I used to attend had one, so I was wondering if Copper Mountain did? And if so how much it cost?
Yeah he does...And honestly I think it used to help, when he first started going but I think he is actually learning more in school. Hes come a long way in this past year.
I feel the same way, I feel as if we are doing the same things at home with him.
And preschool especially Headstart does wonders!!! My son has learned so much its crazy!!! I can't believe how much he has changed since he started in August. I can't wait until my daughter goes to preschool she is a shy quiet little girl and i know when she starts school she is going to change so much too.
Dr. Weston is also an excellent therapist for children - particularly issues that military children deal with. He is located on Adobe Road next to the Little Church of the Desert. He takes Tricare. You do not need a referral to see him.
He is also familiar with dealing with school systems when needed to get a child qualified for a program and can be helpful.
Thanks so much for the information! I kept putting everything off in hopes we would move back to our home town, but the husband wants to stay here so come June I'm going to be a local of Joshua Tree!
sorry Kerry.....you are right....I knew it was December....but I was tangling things up in my head....my daughter's birthday is in October and I have been fighting with Texas because down there you have to be 5 by August....so I just kept thinking the cutoff date was Oct....sorry
but fyi for anybody else who's wondering....I just talked to the school and they might be changing the date starting next year....the cutoff date will Nov 1....and each year it will be be even earlier till they get the cutoff date to Aug.1st....
I have been fighting with Texas because down there you have to be 5 by Augus
I understand that we are from TX and i thought all states were the same for school, but when i thought we were moving to Michigan i called and their cut off dates are Dec 1 also. Then when we found out he wasn't deploying and we are pcsing the two stations we can be at VA cut off date is 5 by Sept 30 ( which sux my son bday is Oct 6) and or GA cut off date is Sept 1. So my son wont be going to Kinder this coming up school year now. Hopefully i can get him into preschool again becuz he has been doing so well there.
why do they keep pushing the starting age back? it seems that with pre-school and all they do these days to prepare the kids, they would be going the other way..
