Has anyone ever shipped their pets from one state to another?

we know what is required for the airline..we are just not sure which to use.

MrsH --- 14 years ago -

I swear there was just a thread the other day about someone getting a dog they bought shipped to them.

MrsH --- 14 years ago -

Here it is
You could PM the OP of that thread and ask her how she had her dog shipped to her.

My husband shipped three cats to me from NC to ontario California. We used southwest and they were great! We had to have airline appr. kennels and records of all there shots.

@ silly..you used Southwest huh? I usually always fly through them but i wasnt sure if they shipped pets..

Do you remember how much it was per cat?

our cat hates riding in the car and we figure a 3hr flight would be better then a 24hr car ride.. for us and the cat lol

There is always Pet Airways. They only go in and out of certain places, but worth checking out. But the pets fly in the cabin (in cages) and the flight attendants take care of them the whole time. If you are close to one of the places or don't mind a drive, it is what I will be doing with our dog.

We always use Southwest to go home because we can our dog with us. It costs $175 per animal. We always take him on board with us (he's a pug) as long as the fit in a pet bag or kennel that is small enough for under the seat your fine :)

Yeah, I have an Akita that is about 130 lbs. Since he can't go with us, I would rather send him on a flight where he is in the cabin with someone watching him. But it does depend on what kind a pet you have and the size.

American Airlines offers military 50% off the cost of shipping pets as cargo. Depending on your animal's size, they may only fly into LAX, that's the only downside. As far as who I'd recommend, I'd go with continental. They are more expensive than AA, however they have a gate agent with your pet at departure, any layover and the arrival point. They make sure your animals are the last ones on the plane and the first ones off. Very much worth the extra money, in my opinion.

Give your pet benadril (sp) right before it leaves on the plane.... it makes the ride smoother.

3 cats $400

thanks for all the info yall!!

I called continental today and they gave me some great information.. I will try AA tomorrow to see what they quote me.

I really wish we could fly with our cat but my hubs and I have to drive the car plus our pup to texas.. and our cat does NOT do well in the car :/

American Airlines is gonna charge us alittle less then half of what continental will... OOWW! thank you military discount! :D
