The last two years I've seen it the day before or the day the maradim regarding the selection list came out (before it was posted). Commands get the list right before it posts and ppl spread the word.
I can't wait for it to come out. I've got my fingers crossed for a few friends! :)

Not all that don't get selected are "sh*t b..".. Some people that get selected don't deserve to get selected and the ones that do deserve to get selected don't. Last year a female got selected just on a basis that she was female and they needed to fill their quota.. She didn't submit a picture or anything... And then other people got selected that were getting out the next year.. Also command can be lazy and score someone low on their fit reps but in the comments can say how great they were and how they go above and beyond the average Marine and praise the crap out of them.

When you've sat on some of the selection boards, as I have, then your words would have some depth, until then they are just meaningless ramblings...and your comment about a female getting selected without even submitting a photo is false; without a picture her package wouldn't even have made it past the screening process...

So do enlighten me than as to what are the deciding factors on selecting a Marine for Staff.. From what I've heard from multiple people was that the girl got selected and she did not have a picture, but it was on the basis that they needed to fill their quota and she was the one to fill it.

That explains your entire misguided view..."multiple people" who have never sat on a SNCO Promotion Board trying to explain the process that they know absolutely nothing about...There are quota's per MOS, but not by gender.....

The entire package; ie. Job performance as based on fitreps; Rifle and Pistol Qualifications, Physical Fitness Score; phyical appearance(the photo) and the individual Marines apparent desire to seek self improvement via military courses, MCI Courses and off education...in addition to the above the board members take into consideration previous "B" Billet duty assignments, ie Recruiter Duty, Drill Instructor Duty and other "B" Billet assignments. They also look back at performance in previous ranks and duty assignments. Those with superior performance track records are the ones nominated for selection...Those who are marginal get to try again next cycle..where a certain percentage will be selected for promotion providing they have shown "exceptional" improvement over their past performance.

You have to remember that the board is looking at actually three different promotion zones; those in the above zone, usually they've been passed over before; Those in the promotion zone; and those in the below zone(don't have time in grade or time in service), but have been nominated by their commands for "special consideration" based on their "EXCEPTIONALLY OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE". Hope thats helpful....

That was very helpful! Thanks Rudy. If a candidate in the above zone is equally as good as someone in the zone, would the above zone candidate get selected first over the one in the zone? (Just out of curiousity).

That would be determined by a vote from the board members; the member in the above zone, if he/she has shown "marked" improvement over the last reporting period, could get promoted; usually a board member would make a special presentation to the board justifying his/her reason for wanting to select that particular individual for promotion..

and just for clarification, board members with personnel from their commands up for promotion are NOT allowed to voice any opinions either for or against their command members..
