when you apply for housing do you have an option on rather or not you want to wait for housing that is on the base? Also, if u have 2 dogs is there certain housing areas you are allowed to live in. Thanks!

sorry, can't help ya, never been through it. Just gonna read your post then leave. :-P

Not really unless you're SNCO and above. If you're offered 801 you can turn it down, but if you turn down two offers you're off the list for a year.

Also, if u have 2 dogs is there certain housing areas you are allowed to live in.

I believe every housing area allows up to two pets.

Carebear- Thanks for the feedback. Feel more comfortable living on base, so was just curious what my chances are of actually getting a house on the base.

a1816582uu --- 13 years ago -

One more question: if you turn down the first house will the second house be in a different housing area?

Mary Swanson --- 13 years ago -

what rank? how many dependents?

Theres on base housing and off base housing (Vista del Sol 801)

CareBear --- 13 years ago -

Not necessarily. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It just depends on what they have available to offer to you.

a1816582uu --- 13 years ago -

Carebear- OK. Thanks again.

Mary Swanson- We already know what housing areas we can end up in, but didnt know what our chances were of actually getting a house on the base.

CareBear --- 13 years ago -

No problem, good luck with your move!

a1816582uu --- 13 years ago -

Carebear- Thanks. Really nervous not gonna lie!

CareBear --- 13 years ago -

Have you been out here before?

a1816582uu --- 13 years ago -

Carebear- No. I am an east coast girl & never been anywhere but east coast. Definitely going to be a culture shock to me. And alot to get use too.

CareBear --- 13 years ago -

Gotcha. I'm from Michigan and it was a HUGE shock when we got here, but it's really not as bad as it might seem, lol. It grows on you after a while.

a1816582uu --- 13 years ago -

I hope so! Good to hear that.

watch out for thee Man-eating Cactus ! You maybe walking along the roads and a tentacle comes out to grab you and it says in a sorta talking 'whale' like voice ,' yum, yum food' ! ..Carry a slingshot for these plants [fill the shot with killer aphids that will feed on that cactus]

there's still a ton of open houses in Shadow Mountain if that's one you guys could get.. just trying to be helpful..

joe --- 13 years ago -

if the homes are open Mary can I come in and visit then ? lol

a1816582uu --- 13 years ago -

Mary Swanson- I would like to live in Shadow Mountain. Definitely is one of the options I would take if we can get it. Talked to housing & they pretty much was like its 50/50 on getting base housing on base. That they have more housing out in town. But me I do prefer on base. I know you are being helpful & I really do appreciate it. Any advice or feedback is helpful. Our second duty stating. Been at this one duty station for 8 years on the east coast.

a1816582uu --- 13 years ago -

station not stating

a1816582uu --- 13 years ago -

And being on the east coast you definitely get snow and that is one thing i am going to really miss. My oldest girl absolutely loves snow and that was the first thing she asked me was does it snow out there.

Yea.. its depressing. When you grow up with snow on Christmas then come here.. its just not Christmas.
Big Bear has snow. You'll have to take trips there. :)

I have heard that you can go to big bear and see snow. How far is it from 29 palms?
