We are moving to Twentynine Palms in three weeks from Camp LeJeune. What base housing areas are snco? Are all housing newer or is some of it the old stuff? What is the best advice you have about preparing for Twentynine Palms? Tia
I cannot answer the housing questions because my family live off base. But as for preparing for 29.... Well...
The beach is no longer a 15minutes drive, but a 2 hours drive.
Walmart is no longer 15mins drive, more like 30 mins from the base's main gate.
Say goodbye to one hour traffic after work for your spouse (or whomever is in the service)
hello beautiful sunsets. :-)
If you're a shop-a-holic, the nearest mall is in Palm Desert and that's a one hour drive, the locals call it "going down the hill". There's also an outlet mall, same distance but opposite direction from Palm Desert.
Weather: it's a lot similar to Jacksonville but when it gets humid, it's dry heat humid, you will feel the burn (no kidding). It does get crazy windy here during spring time(i'm not exaggerating either). The temperature will reach 115+ during summer but on some days, it's windy so you got the nice dry heat blowing at your face when you go to pick up your youngin's from school (if you have any).
That's all I can think of at the moment. Will edit and add more to this. :-)
What oTWINo said is pretty accurate. I just moved here from Cherry Point and it's a whole world of difference. I can't help much for housing as I've only been in the one I live in! Welcome to the area though!
The heat, wind, humidity &/or lack there of, don't bother me. We were in Yuma for many years before LeJeune. As for shopping, is a rare thing, I hate it. I try to make the best of every place we go and am sure will be fine. Just a little stressed and wanted to get some local info. Thanks for the info, feeling better, but not less stressed! Lol
lol, portable DVD players or games. We opt to drive across country, 5yr old and a 5month old. Luckily for DH and I, the kids slept during most of the ride.
We get to *** HAVE TO*** stop and see family. They are meeting us at our 1/2 way stop for a day. Thank goodness for our annual trips back home to KS, that was practice!!!
You know what you guys[gals] need to all hear from me IS i am glad you wives happen to have had to move here over the years because you add your touches to the desert town area! Of course Anaheim sort of reminds of the idea too.
If you wanna get a glimpse of housing pictures usmc twenty-nine palms facebook group has albums of the insides. Many other wives have generously posted them up for you. So once you figure out what you might be able to get that might be useful if you wanna see what the insides look like.
