Has anyone else noticed the 2 really bright spots in the western sky the past few nights?

Looked it up on Skymaps.com. It's the planets, Venus & Jupiter.

As March continues, watch the two brightest planets gradually approach and then pass each other before being joined by the Moon on 26 March.

Cool, huh!

I did see them two different nights and wondered what ones they are and this explains them to me and thanks Kel..

OMG, OMG...My hubby was just outside viewing the planets with the telescope. He had it pointed East at Mars and noticed a big red light just below Mars. He put the telescope on it and it was a huge circle that kind of looked like a 4th planet. He was wondering if there was a 4th when it started flashing red. He was trying to adjust and no matter how he adjusted the telescope it was big, round and flashing red. All of the sudden it disappeared! Then we noticed a lot of aircraft approaching the area and it was gone. Hubby was able to focus in on an air plane as it was flying by and could tell in fact it was a plane but couldn't tell what the huge object was. I hope we don't sound crazy, but we both just viewed something VERY WEIRD tonight! I promise you all we are not one of those weird people you see on TV lol.

If you are interested in Astronomy but don't want to buy a telescope, check out the Southern California Desert Video Astronomers:

http://www.scdva.org/
http://twitter.com/#!/SCDVA

They meet at Joshua Tree Lake RV & Campground. There they project a telescope onto a giant projector screen so that everyone can enjoy. Bring some chairs, blankets, etc.. and grab a spot!

They also have a fairly active twitter feed and facebook page with info about upcoming celestial events.

Another great resource is the Riverside Astronomical Society which conveniently meets at some property they bought in Landers. I've often gone to their star parties; lots of telescopes they are willing to let you look through. Everyone is very friendly and knowledgeable! One of the largest clubs in the country.

We are located in a great area for observing the night skies! Take advantage of it!

I saw them when I was visiting my mom's house and that is all the way in Temecula, I don't know if that would be the same light you are talking about?

I would imagine so.
