But I need friends. I'm not joking, it's like death to me out here with basically no social interaction. I've been out here for 4 months this way and it feels like I'm dying. Sounds really lame, I know, but for a 19 year old, this sucks. I wasn't really social or huge into having friends in the beginning, but holy crap.

I can't be the only one around this age feeling this way. If there's any other people feeling this way in general, I'm up for talking or hanging out. (It's not like there's much to do out here anyway haha) But it would be nice to get a group of girls together and maybe just have a girls night in Palm Springs. Anyone up for that possibly?

Are you a Marine wife?

It isn't to bad when you start getting out and about. Since it is cooling down you can do some exploring in the Monument.

Not a marine wife just yet; I will be married as of next month. I'm also not on base, I live about 10 minutes away.

This page is for Marine wives/girfriends/fiances on facebook.

Its a great support site a lot of the girls will willingly hang out/answer a lot of questions and are always looking for friends.

Also there is pictures of base housing if you decide to go that route instead of living off base. Off base can be nice too, don't know your preferences just giving the resources.

The UG is great for other amazing people that also live out in town with no military affiliation. Be careful not to limit your friends always to "just marine wives" ....sometimes its nice to hang out with people that don't talk about the usmc 24/7... just a side note

That's probably the nicest thing anyone has ever said about the UG and 29. But then again you are a smart one. :)

Not lame at all, something I've been struggling with for 3 years out here as a military spouse :) I think its worst for civilian males, all of the groups I found on base were geared toward female spouses.

Worst part is, when I do find someone to hang out with they PCS away :)

If I have one regret now that we're almost done here, its not pushing my wife to live on base. We stayed off base the whole time because when we arrived the wait list was 9 months and we didn't want to move a second time. It also didn't help that many of her colleagues told us not to live on base for various reasons :) I've only ever been to Ocotillo Heights, but it seems like a fantastic place to be. Everyone seems to know eachother, go over eachother's homes, etc.. I didn't find that out in town.

One thing I found helpful to get out of the house was to take some random classes at Copper Mountain College. You should look into it.

You need to get to know the people in the community, if you go out and visit the art galleries, community theaters, concerts in the parks of 29 Palms, Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley you will discover that we are more then a military community. You might discover the many artists, writers, musicians and actors who have choosen to live in a small town outside of the "apparent" company town of LA. The Joshua Tree National Park has many visitors from around the world during the cool winter months... don't let your experience in the desert go to waste.

There are a ton of volunteer opportunities around 29 as well. I know you're not married yet, but each unit has a FRO that always needs volunteers and ideas for functions.

ALWAYS a nice way to get involved in drama with other spouses. Yay, my favorite!

It doesn't have to be filled with drama. It is what you make of it.

Your correct, but it certainly makes life abit more exciting....IMO
