Anybody have suggestions on where I can take our car for a diagnostics check? Our VSC, traction & ABS lights all came on yesterday on the way back from Palm Springs. We're pretty sure it's the brakes but I want to be sure that there isn't another problem before we make our trip to Vegas next month. The closer to base, the better.

Whats the year/make/model?

I always go online and see if other owners have had similar issues. Almost every car has a forum for owners of that vehicle.

I've used Stellar Performance in 29 a couple times based on reviews on this forum; they do good work.

Thanks :) I'll check them out.

A quick search of http://www.rav4world.com/ seems to indicate a wheel speed sensor as one the more common problems that would cause what you are describing. The ABS, Traction/Stability control systems all need to know that bit of info.

Mark Speer is great. He's the only one we allow to work on our cars.

The lights went out when we changed the tires last night but I will definitely take my car there if they come back on. They do basic stuff like brakes & oil too, right?

Yes. Guaranty on the work done with certified mechanics.

Speers is the best but kinda expensive, just don't go to Baileys, stay far away from them.

I've been to Mark Speer's for oil changes, etc. while I had tires rotated at Roy's. I've not had any repairs though :) My biggest issue is how far they are from my home - i.e., if I need to walk home or ride my bike back after I drop off my car.

I did go to Bailey's the other day and it was awful. I bought an Interstate battery at Lube Stop 2 year ago, and I needed it replaced under warranty. Lube Stop doesn't sell Interstate anymore, so Interstate said Bailey's was a distributor and they would handle it.

Bailey's wanted nothing to do with me. First they said $52 prorated for the replacement battery and $25 to install it. Interstate warranty is that its free if it fails in less than 2yrs. I called Interstate, they called Bailey's and they still said Interstate was wrong about their own warranty terms!

One lady said it as 18 months, another gentleman said it was 2 years from manufacture - not when I bought it. It was maddening the effort they were expending not to help me. It was amazing the contempt I felt from the three people I dealt with there. After two trips, phone calls between Interstate & Bailey's, all this hassle - they didn't even have the replacement battery! I would think they should check that first.

So I went to Ace Alternator in Yucca - they tested it for free, installed it for free, battery was free. He hooked up a another battery while he swapped the bad one so I wouldn't lose my radio programming or ECU state. He cleaned the clamps, sprayed the terminals down to slow corrosion on the new battery. Top notch battery service! I gave the guy a nice tip for his troubles. Nothing better than good service!

I didn't buy the battery at either location (Bailey's or Ace Alternator), but very different treatment! I guess Bailey's doesn't understand first impressions, I'm never going back.

Wow!! I've heard other things about Baileys before but that definitely tops the list!!

Sair --- 12 years ago -

Geez, David. That is a lot of hassle for something they didn't even have!

DJCC --- 12 years ago -

If Bailey's chooses to be an Interstate battery distributor, they have to know they'll occasionally replace batteries purchased elsewhere, especially in a town like this where people are always coming and going. Thats the whole point of buying a battery with a nationwide warranty.

And they should be familiar with the warranty terms for products they sell. I imagine they are also charging their own customers for replacement batteries still within Interstate's free 2yr replacement period!

I've been to Mark Speer's for oil changes, etc.

I went there to have my radiator flushed; they put the cleaning stuff in, but never flushed it; nor did they replace any coolant or thermostat as they were suppose to. Needless to say the cleaning solvent ate away the head gaskets and caused me to have blown head gaskets coming back from Lake Havasu...Their mechanic falsified the repair documents stating that he DID flush the radiator and replace the thermostat...and of course with their documentation they denied ANY responsibility; yet fired the mechanic less than two days after I reported the problem. Stellar confirmed that NOTHING was done, but again, THEIR documentation showed otherwise...Stellar repaired their mistakes and I've had absolutely no problems with the car since....STAY AWAY FROM SPEARS!!!!!
