My husband and I are on the wait list for base housing, we are on the 4bedroom SNCO list, July will be 4 months we've waited so far. I'm having a c section the last week of June and our lease is up June 15th. We aren't able to do month to month and I'm starting to stress out about where we will live et cetera. Does anyone know if Lincoln moves around on the waiting list if there's special circumstances?
We just got our house on base 2 months ago and waited 8 months for our 3 bedroom SNCO house (when they said the wait was 3-6 months), but I know the 4 bedroom wait was shorter at that time. Keep calling housing for an update on the time and make sure they know your situation and don't forget about you. They don't have to let you jump the line, but hopefully they can get you in as soon as possible.
I am surprised that you can't do a month-to-month where you are now, especially if whoever you rent from knows your situation. As a last resort, you might have to find a different month-to-month place to get by until you get on base. I know there are some great realtors and landlords around who will adapt to your situation. It's definitely not ideal, especially with kids, but you have to keep reminding yourself that it's only temporary. We had to do the same thing :/
Thank you!! Our landlord is going with a property manager which is why we can't do Month to Month.. The thought of moving twice in such a short period of time is a bummer, but I suppose we'll see. I can't believe how crazy getting into base housing is.. Largest Marine Corps Base in the world.. You'd think they could build another neighborhood... Lol
Yeah, I know. They have plenty of land for it. I think it was back in 2006, they tore down some housing and rebuilt new ones, but there are still open areas that they never rebuilt on. I don't know if the plan eventually is to build more or not, but they could sure use houses.
I'm trying not to be picky but am hoping for shadow mountain.. They have Grass!! That's green!! Ocotillo is an option too but I don't know too much about that area.
I kind of wanted Shadow Mountain for the yard too. The house we ended up getting had an all rock yard, but we cleared the rock and bought rolls of grass sod and it is really nice. We got permission from housing to do it and they said as long as we put the rock back when we move, they don't care what we do, lol. So we kept the rock around the edges and have a nice patch of grass about 15' x 35'. We are hoping that housing will like it so much they won't make us put the rock back, but it was worth it for us since we will be here for a few years. Plus, it was very easy to do (only used a shovel and a rake for the whole job)
