**falls off sofa laughing**

PhD Chris P Bacon --- 13 years ago -

I sold a machine to a specialist in the Army. He was a sharp guy. He had a housewife, a newborn, perfect credit, zero debt and that includes both cars. Although, he bought a machine from me @ $90 a month, as I was leaving I saw WIC paperwork. Your opinions? Is this an example of abuse?

Petra Pan --- 13 years ago -

to a specialist in the Army

At least he has a real job. unlike you ur like Napoleon Dynamite's uncle selling vacuums and tupperware lmao..

PhD Chris P Bacon --- 13 years ago -

^ LOL! You got me!

**walks away kicking rocks, wishing he was an E-4 in the Army**

So? We're friends with a couple who have 2 kids, he's a Sgt. and she's a SAHM right now, and they qualify for it. Its a good influence to have good veggies, nutritional cereal, milk, and juice in the house and for the kids.

PhD Chris P Bacon --- 13 years ago -

You don't think this Specialist is abusing the system?

Hijack --- 13 years ago -

Yeah our government is broke and people still feel that they should get the govt to pay for them to have kids.

DanaFromPennsylvania --- 13 years ago -

Its not like a SPC is especially high ranking. Its equivalent to an E-4. Maybe they're just good at money managing to be debt free and have a few nice things. If the family falls under the requirements, then why not?

imperfectly perfect --- 13 years ago -

I think it is abusing the system to a point. Maybe them being on WIC helps they stay debt free, however it bugs me when I see women walking around with there Coach purses and their WIC paperwork is sticking out the top. I think the entire welfare/WIC system needs some revamping. I think if you can afford to by Coach you can afford to buy formula.

Hijack --- 13 years ago -

^^^^well put

PhD Chris P Bacon --- 13 years ago -

"Then why not?"

Uhhhhhhhh, because our Government is 14 trillion dollars in debt and abusers are just adding to our debt crisis.

Hijack --- 13 years ago -

These people know how much they are making. If you can't afford the kids, don't have them. Or give up some of your high priced "wants." It not fair that the rest of us have to pay for you to have a kid.

RaeRie (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

If we're going to crack down on programs people abuse at the government's expense, WIC is not on the top of my list, personally.

PhD Chris P Bacon --- 13 years ago -

Rae Rie, ya little spin doctor, answer the question. LOL! ;0)

Hijack --- 13 years ago -

There are plenty of programs that need to be cut, and I feel that WIC/welfare/unemployment are at the top with the rest. If we are going to spend the money, spend it on schools or after school programs.

Once the country gets its finances back in control, then go for it. But with more regulation.

DanaFromPennsylvania --- 13 years ago -

Exactly. There are so many factors contributing to our national debt, and I'm pretty sure the abuse of welfare would hugely out way the money going into WIC. Yes, people shouldn't have more kids than they can handle. Duh. But are people still going to do it? Yes. Those kids shouldn't have to starve or eat happy meals just because their parents are stupid.

You just had to go there Bacon Boy!!

Thinning of the heard. Nature's way of eliminating the weak.

Thankfully for Hijack, those who misspell words are not considered 'weak' by nature. ;)

I kid, I kid!

Really, I think WIC is there to help people be able to afford eating healthy, so I don't mind families being on it.

Does it irk me when I see women with Coach bags on WIC? A little. But I'm not going to be so harsh as to claim I know them (or how they live their life) by one accessory.

imperfectly perfect --- 13 years ago -

There kids would not starve and they are still eating happy meals whether they are on WIC or not. Instead of buying unnecessary things, video games, beer, tobacco etc...they should buy food. But they don't. And I'm sorry but poor countries carry gallons of water on their heads to feed their children and here, they sit on there buts and col
ect welfare and WIC. And yes you can collect both at the same time which is another irritant of mine. Point is, it's to easy tp get gov't assistance in this country. Whether its WIC ,foodstamps , housing etc... The gov't needs to make it harder to qualify for these programs and see where their money really is going.

imperfectly perfect --- 13 years ago -

And I do want to add I am not against these programs if you really need it and are trying to get back on your feet. Temporary assistance is not what irritates me. I think its abused alot and thats what irritates me.

Hijack --- 13 years ago -

Hijack --- 13 years ago -

lol, I did not check spelling this time. Whoopsie.

But my husband and I can provide without money from govt programs. I can use spell check at work.

BoatsnHos --- 13 years ago -

Should people who can afford their own milk, etc. utilize the the government's willingness to buy it for them? No. That would be wrong. Which is why even though I qualified, I only used the vochers for formula for 3 months. I could afford the rest at that time.

That said, if we're gonna complain about wasted tax dollars, abuse of WIC is a fracking plankton compared to the waste whales....military contractors, bailouts, oil and farm subsidies, etc.

I really can't accept an argument that throws the massive debt in as evidence. WIC did not get us into this hole, two wars did. Almost all of us here are beneficiaries of the defense budget (which is more than the rest of the world's defense budgets... COMBINED, btw).....just keep that in mind before you go off on the people who need help paying for cheese.

MrsH --- 13 years ago -

All government funded welfare programs need to stop. It's created a society full of ppl who refuse to work for anything. No one knows how to sacarfice for the things that need and want. Too many ppl expect to be handed everything.

Mari (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

What I'm getting from Chris is that this person is financial stable, so why do they need to be on WIC? Save the WIC for someone who really cannot afford to pay for the food (I too have a whole other issue with giveaway programs, so even this was hard for me to type)...mmmmmm

PhD Chris P Bacon --- 13 years ago -

Yes, thanks Mari for clarifying my point! That exactly what I was trying to say via a real life example.

Hijack --- 13 years ago -

I was agreeing with you ChrisB. All about revamping the programs to ensure that those that need it, get it. And not same lazy SOB's that think they deserve it for no reason.

PhD Chris P Bacon --- 13 years ago -

Yes, examples like the one I provided are reasons why we need financial assistance reform. I really like the idea that you can't get cable if are receiving Government assistance.

IWearHisRank --- 13 years ago -

I got nothing on WIC
