I am going to start homeschooling my 3 year old in the fall. She can't get into any of the area preschools because of her medical condition :/ I am just looking for other moms to connect with and share ideas. I joined the growing palms group and haven't really found any other preschoolers.

Also if you use the search bar, there are a few more threads about homeschooling

Yup, thanks. I am just hoping to find more parents to actually connect with :) I am actually writing my own curriculum :)

We should all get together some time. My daughter is REALLY upset that she can't go to "school" with her friends so I am hoping to get her really involved and make some new friends. :)

And here I thought homeschooling 3 year olds was what every stay at home parent did. What do you intend to teach them beyond what every parent teaches their kid? If that sounds snarky, I truly don't mean it that way...just really curious.

Oh me too lol.

It is just teaching the basics, in a structured environment. Also for me personally it is a trial run to see if I want to try to home school for elementary school. And no not every parent takes the time to teach their child. So many kids go to kindergarten not being able to write or even recognize their own name, and I don't want my kid being one of them. Plus it will add more structure to our normal day :)

I did this when my older ones were young in SD. A group attached to the LLL had a homeschooling playgroup of various ages. We did lot's of field trips and swapped ideas, books, etc. Did monthly family get together's too.
Then I moved out here send them to Head Start and laid out by the training tank pool while they were learning. Pro's and con's to both ways!

The more they know the better all 4 of my older ones went into Kindergarten with reading basics. I was shocked when I saw there were kids who couldn't even write their name. There's no excuse for that.

I taught kinder for a yr and you would be surprised how many parents dont teach there children. We had students who could not count past 10, its sad really.

has anyone done K12 i think it might also be called CAVA. My daughter misses the cut off by 3 days. It's really upsetting cause she is ready for kindergarden but now has to wait an extra year. I was just wondering so I can try to get a head start.

I've been doing homeschool preschool for a year now with our son (now 4) and our daughter just started (2).

We got a subscription with Starfall and my kids LOVE it. They are very territorial over it now, I'm 'allowed' to watch, but they want to do the work by themselves now :). numbers, phonics, music, art, etc. It's basically online learning games but they have helped a lot.

We do a little structured curric mixed in with some Montessori. Other than that I just go off of milestones for pre-k through 1st grade and we do different activities based on that. It's a loose schedule, we have fun and we learn, no pressure.

I prepped both my kids before they went into school. Not sure you would call it homeschool at that age though. I also continue working with them throughout each year especially during the summer. I use the A Beka books as well as a LOT of workbooks and guidebooks from The Lakeshore Learning store.

I love lakeshore, to bad it's so far away. I have been able to get great books from amazon. thanks for the tips and webpages. I have heard in the past that A Becka was a great program altough a bit expensive. I just need to get into a homeschool routine with the kids. They are 1, 2, and 4. any tips with that?
