Cops, or Civilian MP's. Whats up with them? Why do they think they are real cops? LOL 

Someone handed them a plastic chrome coated badge and a walkie talkie and they think they're Billy Bad@ss...just like PMO on any Marine base. The real douchers are the civilian PMO haha...I have a friend FAP'd to that god awful duty right now and he told me straight up those dudes HATE Marines. 

Well it won't be hard for those real doucher Billy Bad@sses to track you down now and have a personal conversation about it seeing how your truck is pretty distinct lol. 

And you know, PMO does monitor this site. :) I'm jus sayin.  

I do and not all PMO are jerks just some :) have a few friends at PMO here. My biggest qualm is that a lot of the Marines like to disregard rank and act as though they are above simple Marine Corps customs and courtesies. I call it like I see it. 

I took my ID out of a Marine's hand at the gate today. He was being a pompous donkey butt. I was not amused. 

Im just wondering why the MC thinks it's better to hire these civilians than to use thier own? 

I have heard the idea is to make all 5811's Field MPs and to keep the civilian police officers as gate guard and what not. I could be wrong just a friend of mine is an instructor at the PMO school house and said something along those lines. I personally am not sure with the budget cuts/draw downs how that will pan out since they pay the civilians quite a bit better than their Marine counterparts. The difference being as I've heard is that the civilian MPs are actual accredited law enforcement officers.

What is the pay/benefits difference? As in how much better? 

Avg starting pay seems to be around 50-60k a year. Benefits: Life insurance, paid leave, retirement plan, health insurance and credit for prior military service 

Credit as in government service I assume you mean for retirement pays? 

Yes credit as in time towards retirement..similar to how the Post Office transfers years of military service towards your retirement (ie: 4 years active duty would mean 16 years till your 20 year retirement)

The pay/benefits for the civilian police works out much better than the Marines since I currently make somewhere in that range with benefits included..not before benefits 

They are getting civilian MPs at alot of bases.. They have them for the Navy and other branches as well. 

Having civilians is significantly cheaper in the long run compared to having a Marine in the same job. My dad gets paid more than a 5-star general, but having him in his job is still cheaper than having someone in the military perform the same duties...it all comes down to the cost of training. At least...this is what I've been told is the reason. Could be wrong. 

It's amazing how people like to comment about PMO. Sure its easy to sit there and critize but do any of you know someone who works there. I've been around the Marine Corps a long time. Did you all know that about 80% of the civilians are former or retired Marines. I talk to one on the gate who happens to be a retired GYSGT and he is very friendly. There has only been a small number of PMO that are total assholes.

Let me think.... Their job title is Police Officer of the United State's Marine Corp and as such is charged with the duty of investigating violations of the uniform code of Military Justice and collection of evidence in criminal cases that the ARM forces of the United States may have a interest.

AND YES. Mostly ALL the civilian cops on 29 Palms MC base are prior service to Military. They are cops, they do the same job as city cops. They all went to an academy and graduated as "police" officers.
